She who makes me happy

The stylish apartment Beatrice is located on Via del Purgatorio. The area is closely connected with the works of the Italian poet Dante of the late Middle Ages. The apartment was named after Beatrice a Florentine Woman who inspired the Italian poet Dante and appears as one of his guides in The Divine Comedy. The name Beatrice comes from the Latin which means “she who makes happy”.

Via del Purgatorio (which means Road to Purgatory) will give you a sense of “old Florence” with its narrow streets and street lamps although today’s via Purgatorio is filled with happy souls exploring the City and enjoying many fine restaurants in the street adjacent, Via Del Parione.

An Ancient Love Story

Why not take a stroll to the Church of Santa Margherita dei Cerchi to visit the tomb of the Beatrice’s family and soak in the atmosphere where Dante first met Beatrice here in this very church for the first time and fell in love with her.

Past meets Future

Notice in Via Del Purgatorio on the right as you walk towards Palazzo Rucellai, a plaque on the right hand side showing the water level of the greatest natural disaster to hit Florence, November 1966.

The great Flood of Florence.

Notice some of the no-exit signs which have recently been enhanced by Florence’s famous graffiti artist ‘Artist Clet’.
